NYS Arts Education Survey 2009

The New York State Alliance for Arts Education in collaboration with the New York State Education Department is pleased to announce an exciting new state-wide census of Arts Education programming, opportunities, and resources of every public school in the State.

The NYS Arts Education Survey was distributed as part of the annual Basic Educational Data System (BEDS) survey to every school in New York State during October. This is the first time Arts Education has been examined this closely in New York State via the BEDS program.

The NYS Arts Education Survey will consist of a total of ten questions collecting data in the areas of:
- Arts Instruction (Visual Arts, Music, Theatre and Dance)
- Resources (Supplies, Materials and Equipment)
- Facilities (Classroom Space)
- Support (Funding / Professional Development / Technology)

See pages 12 & 13.

The data collected from the NYS Arts Education Survey will provide an improved view into the Arts Education programming offered to students in New York State.

In development for over a year, this distribution of the NYS Arts Education Survey comes on the heels of a letter issued by Secretary of Education Arne Duncan, reinforcing the Arts as an integral part of the core educational curriculum in the US. Click here to read the letter.

Findings based on the data collected by the survey are scheduled to be released by the New York State Alliance for Arts Education during the Summer of 2010.

WE NEED YOUR HELP!

NYSAAE is calling on all Arts Education advocates who are part of school communities to be aware of this project, and to seek out opportunities to become involved in the BEDS survey / NYS-AES completion. While this year’s BEDS survey has been completed, school responses are available for review and revision through January 30, 2010. We encourage you to find out who in your building is responsible for the completion of the BEDS survey and offer your help in ensuring that the data that has been submitted is as complete and accurate as possible. Through your efforts, we can ensure the best possible outcomes from this project. The compiled information will become a valuable tool in future efforts advocating for Arts Education in New York State!

As always – NYSAAE welcomes those who are interested in supporting our efforts!
Individual Advocates can join for only $35!
