Invite Poetry Out Loud:
National Recitation Contest
into Your High
School!
Poetry Out Loud is a national program
that encourages high school students to learn
about great poetry as they memorize and perform
notable poems in a series of competitions
that begin in the classroom and will culminate
with national championships in Washington,
D.C. in April 27-29, 2011.
In
alignment with NYSAAE’s mission, Poetry Out
Loud builds on the strengths of arts-integrated
curriculum. A statewide non-profit service
organization, NYSAAE is dedicated to protecting
and
strengthening arts education through advocacy,
information dissemination, and professional
development. These services are provided
to constituents across New York State
to ensure that students receive an education
that is rich in all of the arts.
Upon
registration, teachers will receive dynamic
teaching tools that will invoke students'
excitement about literature and poetry recitation,
including sample lesson plans, audio CDs of
poets reciting their own famous works, publicity
materials for school competitions, and a DVD
of winning student performances from the 2009
Poetry Out Loud
National Finals.
